Works In Progress

Lots of quilts in progress!

This one needs the binding finished up.  This is for the Happy Quilting Quilt-A-Long.

This next one is going to be a gift.   It was actually a surprise for myself when I ordered a Fat Quarter Grab Bag from the Fat Quarter Shop.   I'm working on a gift with these colors.  They are so fresh!

I tried to take a picture of the beautiful colors I'm working with for the bed quilt.   It will be king size and I'm really excited to see this one start coming along.   I ordered one set of fat quarters (from Fat Quarter Shop) and I thought I would be selecting a few fabrics from the set but it turned out so pretty and I fell in love with all the fabrics that I decided to use them all in the quilt.   I just ordered the rest of the fat quarter bundles to finish.   My own photo can't do them justice but you can see them on the FQS site.  Aren't those the most beautiful colors?

Other items in process like a layer cake quilt that I need borders for, a few scrappy zipper bags, some new patterns that I have plans for, a kitty quilt, and finishing a block of the month.   I need a vacation from work just to catch up on my hobby  :>)

Storing Leftover Binding

How do you store your leftover binding?  I apparently had a math problem and have some extra this time  :)

I took a empty toilet paper tube (you could use a paper towel tube if it creeps you out) and just wrapped it around the tube.  I've pinned it to hold in place.   I hope it works ok.   I'd love to hear other suggestions.

Signature Block

I was trying to figure out how I wanted to sign the Postage Stamp Quilt and I ended up doing it like this:

I took a leftover (reject) strip from the quilt top...I had several to pick from...

Then I cut the strip to the size I wanted....

I ironed in the edges about 1/4" on all sides...

I ended up stitching it to the back of the quilt.  Tried the heat and bond and it didn't work.  I actually like this style of signature block but will use a different pen I think.   In my test sample, my handwriting was beautiful and the ink was sharper.  I used a Sharpie marker.   Of course on my actual siggy block, my handwriting came out terrible, the ink looks smeary and it's quite all "squished".   I suppose that is called character.  lol

Finished Postage Stamp Quilt

I am really happy with how this quilt turned out.   The colors are so bright and clean.  The fabric is Moda Sunkissed and Moda Bella Solid (White).   2 Jelly Rolls is all that was needed for the quilt top.   This was my first quilt-a-long and I had a great time.  I can't believe how fast it all came together.

New Quilt-A-Long

Have you seen the new quilt-a-long from Happy Quilting??  Oh this is going to be so fun.

http://happyquiltingmelissa.blogspot.com/p/quilt-long.html

I'm going with the rectangle, 68x85.   I think my material might be the new Antique Fair.   I hope it arrives in stock soon.

I'm really excited to start a new quilt-a-long.  I'm just finishing up my Postage Stamp Quilt and should have some photos soon.  If the signature block comes out, I will share that too.  Off to finish the binding....

Postage Stamp Quilt Along - Top

Hi Everyone!
Thank you for stopping by my new quilting blog.   This is the top I finished for the Postage Stamp Quilt Along.  This has really been a fun quilt along and I've enjoyed it all the way!!

I'm really happy my squares mostly lined up...usually I'm more of a wonky quilter.  Charm...charm I try to call it. :>)

I've not worked with jelly rolls all that often but when you do, they sure do shed.  I had bit of fabric everywhere.  Today I used the Swiffer vacuum on the wood floor and it worked great!  My wood floor is dark so every dot of white fabric showed up for me.  How lovely.  But the Swiffer zipped it right up.  What do they say...Swiffer gives cleaning a whole new meaning?  lol

Thank you for stopping by, as you can see the place is new and needs some work...especially that header that I've tried 50 different things on.  Well it's a work in progress...

Newbie To All Things Quilt-y

Welcome to "From Laptop to QuiltTop".  It seems so many things I learn are initiated by websites/blogs I visit that my title be appropriate.   I also have a food blog titled "From Laptop to Stovetop".   However, food I can actually do...quilting I am not very good.   But I think trying new projects, asking questions, and learning along the way should improve the quilting...somewhat.
